There are nine weeks left until Alabama football opens the 2017 season.  Each week we’ll explain a reason why Alabama will return to the College Football Playoff.

With 11 returning starters, a deep roster, and arguably the best coaching staff in the country, Alabama football seems poised for a fourth straight College Football Playoff run.

So, without any further waiting, the first reason why the Alabama football will return to the 2017 CFP is Depth

Alabama doesn’t have just any type of depth.  The Tide has depth that comes from the No.1 ranked recruiting class for the past seven years according to 247 Sports Composite Team Rankings.  They have also been in the top three for the last 10 years.

Talented freshmen keep flooding into Tuscaloosa gunning to play right away.  However, they aren’t too upset about buying into the process and waiting their turn either.  That ‘process’ guarantees that at some point during their playing career with the Tide they will win a national championship.

Bama’s backups are so talented that it wouldn’t be too farfetched to say that some of them could start on most Power Five teams. That’s the story every year with the Crimson Tide and this year is more of the same.

Every Alabama and college football fan has heard of the names Tua Tagovailoa, Najee Harris, and Dylan Moses.  However, there are also players that were part of the past top recruiting classes that could make some noise if their number is called.

The deepest units on the Tide’s roster comes at the Running Back and Wide Receiver position.  Alabama returns the talented trio of Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris, and Joshua Jacobs. They combined to rush for 2,416 yards and 17 touchdowns last season.  Sprinkle in B.J. Emmons and Najee Harris and the backfield should be just fine.

The receiving corps lost a major contributor in ArDarius Stewart but return arguably the nation’s best receiver in Calvin Ridley.  He along with Cam Sims, Trevon Diggs (when he’s not on defense), Robert Foster, and Jerry Jeudy should be nice targets for Jalen Hurts.

The Tide have always had a ‘next man up’ mentality and this season shouldn’t be any different.
