Playing catch up

There’s no excuse for not posting in the days following a big win like Saturday’s Tennessee game. Suffice to say life gets in the way. But in the past several days, I’ve been thinking about this blog, where’s it’s been, and where it goes from here.

Before I get too far into the navel-gazing, I want to repeat what everyone else said days ago; the win against the Volunteers was another amazing event in this dizzying football season. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but given the great performance against UT, coupled with the improved outing against Ole Miss, points to a trend; this team is beginning to get it. Things are starting to click, and players are making better decisions, playing smarter and putting themselves in a position to win games. That’s all anyone can expect.

One thing I’m not crazy about is that some have called this Saban’s signature win at Alabama. People, Nick Saban has a national championship on his resume; he doesn’t need signature wins. Signature wins are for coaches who are learning on the job. Saban is the professor.

Some quick hits on other SEC teams:

So you’re telling me Auburn goes all Cobra Kai on LSU’s Glenn Dorsey, and it was something Chaz Ramsey picked up somewhere other than the Auburn practice field? Anything you say, Sensei Tuberville…

Wanna do some math? No? Well listen anyway: Les Miles – Nick Saban’s recruits = Houston Nutt. That guy can make all dumb calls he wants; he knows he’s playing with a stacked deck that will pull his chestnuts out of the fire every time. Will his luck hold out? Only until he plays someone with equal talent and better coaching.

Tough break, Steve.

So as I was saying before: I’ve been worrying a lot lately about the things bloggers sometimes worry about; getting people to comment on posts, or readership numbers and whatnot, and wondering what to do about it. But I’m reminded that I never started this to create some sort of media empire. I did this to be able to write about something I love; Crimson Tide football.

I’m not a journalist, but I’ve been fortunate to have some great sportswriters stop in. I’m not here to break down game film, but I can help you find several great places to get that. And I’m not here to generate revenue, but if I can point you toward something to read, wear or in other ways be a fan, I’ll do that too.

But the main thing Ill continue to do is write. Just write; not always trying to be clever, or profound, or see how many oddball sites I can link to (although I’m creeped out by the number of people doing web searches that take them to the second link in this post). I’ll do it for the reasons I started in the first place. Alabama football has been a part of my life for decades, and will continue to be. When I’m not cheering in the stands or in my living room, I still need to express my love for the team, and that’s what this space is for. And if you happen to read it and enjoy it, I’m gratified. But even if you don’t, I’m going to write anyway, because, as the man said, I’m just too full or Alabama not to.
