Your Weekly Auburn Zen: National Signing Day Edition

facebooktwitterreddit

So we all know that “special” person in our lives … the one who, despite all the dark clouds and thunderclaps, can inexplicably see the silver lining in the sky that really does not exist.

In the realm of big-boy college football, these “special” people are simply called Auburn fans. And today might as well be short-bus-special day for the brightest bulbs in the bunch at the Rivals.com version of their chit-chat station called “The Bunker.”

Why “The Bunker,” you ask? Heck if we know. But if today’s massive fail – aka National Signing Day – is any indication, “The Bunker” is a perfect place for some assistant coaches who colossally whiffed in recruiting to hide out when Pat Dye … er, um, Jay Jacobs comes calling asking questions related to “return on investment” and “what happened to all those unmarked ATM cards we had pre-loaded for commitments?”

So here, ready for comment, is the inaugural version of Your Weekly Auburn Zen.

Drew12au posts this about Auburn’s staff: “Unacceptable by our staff. This is getting ridiculous.” True to form, “ookedw responds thusly … “Completely disagree. We have filled every need with solid players. What holes have we not filled?”

tampa_tiger urges Auburn fans to recollect the Tuberville era in a thread titled “REMEMBER!” with this gem: “We have about 10 4 stars which would have tuberville the Mayor. I/We took some big swings and missed. We have a good group, just not much excitement at the end here. If we stop now, we can only sign only about 17ish next year. (we’ll add a few more than that due to people leaving, etc) but We did not want to have to “reach” too much and we didn’t. This is a good class guys as far as quality!!!”

We loved this one, from terryrscruggs, in a thread titled “Has a team ever lost momentum from an NC faster than AU?”: “My God guys. We had a great recruiting class after the championship last year. We’re coming off an 8-5 season which was better than anyone expected but hardly enough to make a recruit excited. Were loaded with a lot of young talent including this class. Future is bright.”

ArmyAU84 keeps it real, well, for Auburn anyway, thusly: “Bottom line is that this staff recruited hard and went after the BIG DOGS early. Did it hurt? No. did they sign everyone they wanted? No. But this class is fine and fills needs. The more important class is next year. So to all the ledge jumping, thumb-sucking and bandwagon fans and imposters, please post less and join another team. This is Auburn by God.”

Gotta love tourdesec for letting us know that, well, huh? “Two other factors are that this class is much much better than the 2003 and 2008 duds, and I love the ones we got. The only exception I have is Wallace because I don’t know much about him. We went for the walk off shot and struck out. It happens. We will be fine.  If this class remains intact, it’s more solid than the group of seniors we have for this fall and I love that we are “disappointed” with a class of this caliber. Completely disagree. We have filled every need with solid players. What holes have we not filled?”
