Auburn Football: Your Weekly Auburn Zen – Knife Fight Edition
By Tony Breland
Auburn football finally has one in the win column, squeaking by powerhouse Louisiana-Monroe in the fourth year of the Gene Chizik reign of error; something Alabama coach Nick Saban failed to do in his first year in Tuscaloosa. Here’s what they had to say about it on the Auburn message boards. As always, spelling and grammar errors are in the originals.
"Chizik is absolutely clueless. in way over his head. Ditto for loeffler."
"Bobby Petrino did not get a buyout from Arky and his wife and kids need food, shoes and therapy. I’m just sayin."
"Why does it feel like we are 0-3 even after this win? We had to win with trick plays and luck. Week three is in the books and we still have yet to improve in any aspect of the game."
"saben absolutley dogs his players and they hate him FACT! recruits know this and dont not like his approach. we have a family atmosphere here a actions speak louder than words."
"my point exactly. they all hate him and he’s ruined more careers than enron! family atmosphere>>>>>business detailed atmosphere!!!!!! we have something special and we didnt just luck into this class!!!! our recruits know!"
"We have had no one as embarrassing as Mike Price, or as bad as Dubose, and we weren’t left at the alter (Franchione to Texas A&M). Bryant would have never been successful in today’s landscape. Coaches do not get 14 years anymore to develop a top program. Our coaches have been fair to good choices mostly. Dye played a more important role in the overall history of the school, than the others. I think as time passes, Chizik and even Malzahn and Tuberville, will get more credit for the National Championship than they are currently getting. It is fairly rare to win a national championship. Dynasties like Miami, Nebraska come and go, and it is hard to get back to the top. Saban’s success will eventually work against Alabama as NFL owners and the University of Texas will eventually tempt Saban and offer a new challenge. The right situation in the NFL may be hard to resist, as a unresolved challenge. Success is fleeting."
"I think we have the best flying around defense in the country."
"At some point “oh, just wait until this current high school junior arrives” is going to give way to the fact that our players have no fundamentals, poor conditioning, poor focus, no leadership and seem to get in trouble off the field. I’m not saying he should be fired this year, but we are NOT Ole Miss where the fanbase is content with an occasional bowl appearance provided the drinks are always flowing on the Grove (and even they don’t tolerate this level of incompetence)."
"We are the knife in the gunfight."
"Sad thing is, I think Trooper is a good coach. Not just a recruiter. Same for Luper and Thig. But I for the life of me can’t figure out why we don’t or can’t develope players. bammer puts em out their and they are freakin studs. cj mosely has been playing since he was a freshman. yeldon is going to be good. traitor."
"CGC will be able to close this recruiting class regardless of his record. Then he will have 2013 to contend for the SEC championship witha not so youthful team. The question mark will still be at QB."
"Also, did you notice that ULM players appeared to be smarter than ours, not better athletes"
"I like CGC philosophy about family and having a moral compos but the fact is winning is what matters in the end."
"So people here think fans posting about how we suck on message boards hurts recruiting, but seeing us in person get beat down by LSU doesn’t? Most on this board dont have a good grasp on reality."
"Pretty good piece, but the writer is incorrect in saying that Cam received payments. It’s just wrong to spread that kind of crap as fact."
And finally, hope springs eternal for one fan:
"We have two really good quaterbacks coming in 2013 and the problems this year will improve some next year and then we will be looking for a chanpionship in 2014."
