HZT Crimson Tide Daily Wrap PLUS Practice Report 10-2-2013

Practice Report

  • Linebacker Reuben Foster tweeted about it earlier and his practice jersey confirmed it. He’s now wearing the No. 9 after sporting a No. 2 so far. Linebacker Tana Patrick had heavy taping on his ankle.
  • The outside linebackers were hitting the sled during individual drills. Typically, they’re doing more agility drills during the media viewing period.
  • Injured defensive back Nick Perry poked his head to catch a peek of practice. He had surgery on his shoulder last week and will miss the rest of the season. Perry had a sling on the injured arm.
  • The CBS 60 Minutes film crew was back shooting the action. They were filming media interviews Monday.
  • Longtime practice official Ed Conyers was in a cheerful mood on the sidelines. He’ll be the grand marshal of the homecoming parade Saturday morning.
  • Also in attendance was former women’s basketball coach and men’s player Wendell Hudson. He now works an administrative role with the athletics department.

The blueprint for an open-field tackle: Alabama defenders break down the science of hitting in space

  • Clinton-Dix delivered the textbook open-field hit just as the Ole Miss receiver approached the first-down sticks. Treadwell flipped, then landed with the ball behind the marker. “We wanted to come out and set the tone,” Clinton-Dix said. “… I just tried to be in the right spot at the right time.” And that’s the idea when making the perfect open-field tackle. Standing alone on an island, the advantage goes to the offensive player in that moment. Click the title link to read more.
