Practice Report

  • Even with full pads, Alabama center Ryan Kelly was in a normal, white jersey at his second practice since missing the past two weeks. When Alabama broke into drills that divided the offensive linemen into the first, second and third teams, Kelly split first-team reps with Chad Lindsay. We’ll get an update from Nick Saban on tomorrow’s SEC teleconference.
  • Alabama’s running backs were going through a new drill — at least from what we’ve seen this year. Surprise, surprise: the focus of the drill was ball security. One player got in the middle with the ball in his hands while the rest of the running backs tried to rip it away. Derrick Henry, in particular, appeared to enjoy being on the ripping end of this drill.
  • Here was Saban’s response to a question Monday about Alabama’s two fumbles against Kentucky:
  • “Probably more than anything, technique. Took a handoff and put the ball in the wrong arm and then tried to change it and got hit when they were trying to change it. The other time the guy’s carrying the ball a little bit low and trying to give some extra effort and just sort of lost it.
  • “Uncharacteristic for our backs, but it’s something that we certainly need to work on.”
  • HaHa Clinton-Dix continued to practice in the same spot.
