As promised earlier, left guard Arie Kouandjio (ankle) was not an active participant. He was watching the drills, however, as he wore a black, non-contact jersey. Fifth-year senior Kellen Williams worked at his spot.
Tight end Brian Vogler (ankle), running back T.J. Yeldon (ankle) and cornerback Deion Belue (toe) were much more active today than at any point last week. Vogler was running routes and catching passes while Yeldon and Belue were going through the normal drills.
Running back Tyren Jones, who was not present at Saturday’s game, was back at practice. He wore No. 21 — a number that is also worn by Auburn’s Tre Mason. Altee Tenpenny also wore Mason’s number.
Alvin Kamara wore No. 20. That’s Corey Grant’s number. Of note, freshman Derrick Henry, who ran six times for 66 yards against Chattanooga, was wearing his usual No. 27. He’s typically been a scout team guy, but it doesn’t look like that’s the plan today, at least.
Defensive end LaMichael Fanning’s suspension remains ongoing.
ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit is in town and is watching Alabama practice.

Football Heads to Auburn for Final Regular Season Game of 2013

THE GAME: The top-ranked University of Alabama football team travels to No. 4/5 Auburn for the final regular season game of the 2013 season. The Crimson Tide (11-0, 7-0 SEC) and Tigers (10-1, 6-1 SEC) square off in the 78th Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday. The winner will capture the SEC Western Division crown and earn a place in the 2013 SEC Championship Game in Atlanta on Dec. 7. The game between the Tide and Tigers will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast nationally on CBS. Verne Lundquist will serve as the play-by-play announcer, with Gary Danielson at his side as the color analyst with Tracy Wolfson on the sidelines. Eli Gold and Phil Savage will handle the radio call on the Crimson Tide Sports Network, with Chris Stewart serving as sideline reporter.
RANKINGS: Alabama enters week 14 of the 2013 season ranked first in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) standings, the Associated Press and USA TODAY Coaches polls. Auburn is ranked fourth in the BCS, fourth in the AP and fifth in the Coaches poll.
AUBURN: The Tigers enter the game with a 10-1 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Auburn is led by first-year head coach Gus Malzahn and is coming off of a dramatic 43-38 victory over Georgia in Auburn on Nov. 16. Nick Marshall is the Tigers’ starting quarterback and leads the team with 1,530 yards passing with nine touchdowns and five interceptions on 58.4 percent passing. He has also ran for 823 yards and nine scores. Auburn running back Tre Mason is averaging 104.8 yards per game (1,168 yards) and has 17 scores. Sammie Coates is the team’s leading receiver with 687 yards on 30 receptions with five touchdowns.
SERIES HISTORY: Alabama and Auburn meet in the 78th Iron Bowl Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Alabama holds a 42-34-1 lead in a series that dates back to the 1893 season. The Crimson Tide and Tigers first met on Feb. 22, 1893, at Birmingham’s Lakeview Park with the Tigers claiming 32-22 victory in the inaugural meeting. Alabama has had the upper hand in recent meetings, claiming four of the last five meetings, including two straight. The Crimson Tide has not surrendered an offensive touchdown to the Tigers in the last two games with a 42-14 win in 2011 (1 special teams & 1 defensive TD) and a 49-0 victory in 2012, both en route to BCS Championships. The Tide also posted a come-from-behind 26-21 win in Auburn in 2009 on its way to the school’s 13th national championship.
TIDE FACING HIGHEST RANKED TEAM AS NO. 1: With Auburn moving up to the No. 4 spot in the Associated Press poll, it will be the highest ranked team Alabama has ever played in a regular season game when the Crimson Tide has been ranked No. 1. The previous highest was when Alabama took on No. 5 LSU on Nov. 3, 2012.
UA-AU WINNER GETS “FOY TROPHY”: On July 13, 1948, the two circles of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society from Alabama and Auburn, joined together to sponsor a trophy devoted to sportsmanship between the two universities. The ODK-James E. Foy V Sportsmanship Trophy is a tradition which symbolizes the good relationship between the two schools. Originally the trophy was displayed in Birmingham in Loveman’s store window the week prior to the football game between the two universities. Then, in a parade preceding the game, the trophy would be carried in a convertible with the Omicron Delta Kappa presidents from each school on either side. The parade was stopped in the 1960s but the trophy has continued to be awarded every year. The trophy is now awarded to the winner at halftime of the Alabama-Auburn basketball game on the winner’s home court. The trophy remains in their care until the next year’s presentation takes place. In January 1978, the trophy was dedicated to Dean James E. Foy V upon his retirement as the Dean of Student Affairs at Auburn University. He began serving in that position in 1950 after serving as Assistant Dean of Students at the University of Alabama.
IRON BOWL RANKINGS: For the 29th time since 1980, at least one team is ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 entering the annual Iron Bowl. Neither team was ranked in 1982, 1998 and 2003. Alabama is No. 1 in the current AP poll and is ranked entering the Iron Bowl for the 40th time in history. Auburn is No. 4 in the AP poll, marking the second time in series history both teams are ranked in the top five entering the game (1971: No. 3 Alabama defeated No. 5Auburn, 31-7). The Crimson Tide is 28-11 against the Tigers when ranked in the AP poll. Auburn has been ranked a total of 27 times in Iron Bowl history and has compiled a 19-8 record when ranked in the AP Top 25. The highest ranked team owns a 42-10 record in the series since 1955.
TELEVISED GAMES: The 2013 Alabama-Auburn game will be the 39th televised game in the series, dating back to the series’ first televised game in 1964. Alabama owns a 21-17 record in the previous 38 TV games. The Alabama-Auburn game is being televised for the 20th consecutive year. CBS Sports will televise its 15th Iron Bowl this season.
SABAN VERSUS AUBURN: Alabama head coach Nick Saban is 6-5 in his career against the Auburn Tigers. Saban is 4-2 in Iron Bowl games as the head coach at Alabama. His LSU teams went 2-3 against Auburn from 2000-04.
NEXT GAME: A win and Alabama will venture to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta to represent the western division in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 7. A loss and the Crimson Tide would await word on its bowl destination.
