Stop Being Stupid

Fellow Bama fans – I am writing this as a plea to help our cause. We thrive off of college football. We know it. The nation knows it. What the nation does not seem to understand, however, is how educated our fan base truly is. Did every Alabama fan go to college? No. Neither did every fan of Southern California, but you can come across as an educated individual even without some piece of extra thick 10% cotton paper.

I am not asking everyone to go to college or even read a book. What I am asking is for you to act like you have been there before. It was not too long ago when a season like last years would have been looked upon as an overall success. Did we lose to Auburn? Absolutely. However, I think most of us can agree that we lost to Auburn; Auburn did not beat us. The only thing Auburn won that day was having Lady Luck on their side that infamous Saturday. One second? Sure. We know Barners. But hey! Alabama fans. Guess what? We lost in the final second of a game. Shit happens. We must move on and we cannot do that as a fan base if half of the Alabama fans cannot admit defeat. I am not suggesting we become apathetic or to readily accept defeat. I am simply asking folks to look to the future. Don’t forget the past, but stop letting it make you look like an idiot. We lost. Stop the argument. Were you on the field? Do you have the same talent as those young men? Are you getting paid millions of dollars a year to coach up this talent? No. You are a fan. We are fans. Our job is to be there for our team – our university.

Sure, the loss should have been discussed and we have done that. We did it with Oklahoma as well. That loss, in my opinion, was worse when you look at play, but both losses are done. We have lost. We have discussed it. The dynasty is not over because of one season that did not result in a national championship berth. In fact, it can be argued a dynasty is not based upon how well your great seasons are, but how effectively you bounce back from the off years. Dynasties are not short lived. There will be some down years. Let’s just suck it up and get behind our team.

Auburn and Oklahoma fans are going to gloat – and they should. These two teams did what most have not been able to do in the Saban-era of Alabama football: they beat us. However, continuing to focus on it just make you, and the rest of the Alabama fan base, look rather dumb. We must move on and look forward to the successes of the upcoming season and beyond. We need to stop marinating in the past. Those who are smart learn from their mistakes, use them as motivation, and then never look back. Let’s be smart, fellow Bammers.
