Thoughts For Today on The Houndztooth’s Two Year Anniversary
By Chris Hale
I do my best thinking at night and last night was no different. I had to go back and take a look just to make sure but I was right. On this date, 2 years ago, we started The Houndztooth. It’s been a great ride thus far and we have added lots more people that wasn’t even with us in the beginning but yet make this site what it is today.
We started out as just a place for probably 4 people to gather and talk recruiting. Things actually got started in a chat room on Chatzy. With limitations on how many people could be online at the same time, we decided to move everything to a message board so that if anyone wanted to participate, they could. At first, we just started on a site hosted by Proboards and stayed there until just before the 2013 football season. That’s when we decided to get our own servers and do things the way we wanted to, including adding the blog to the site.
The one thing I really enjoy about The Tooth is how laid back everything is. There is no boss. The ones that do the blogging and the updates just know what should be done and they do it. All of us have regular jobs but everything concerning the site just gets done. That’s just the way it is. And most of the time, it gets finished within a few minutes of when it needs to be done. That’s when you know you are associated with some exceptional folks. We may not be able to hit everything but we will hit the majority of what needs to shared.
I’m definitely not the only one responsible nor do I want to take credit for it. Magilla keeps things rolling on the message boards and is a complete monster with a lot of football knowledge and he deserves a lot of credit. He’s been here since day 1. He is usually on the receiving end of a private message on the board if I have something to complain about or need a little help with and most of the time if he is not tied up with something else, he will help out. Clay AKA SabanSays handles a lot of the blogging as well as promoting and taking care of advertising. Texts usually fly between us during the days as we brainstorm ideas on different things that we can do. AllBamaDoesIsWin will always jump in and help out as well. I remember the night of the NFL Draft being one of those nights. We also had a softball game that night so we were dual tweeting from the Twitter account to make sure everything was covered. ApeDeuce and BigBam are two more that will jump in and do anything they can do to help whether it’s blogging, an update to the site or even just starting up a thread if everyone else is tied up. Amanda is fairly new to the crew but she has been handling everything on the Facebook side of things and rocking it over there. There is no way I could do everything and every one of these folks make it all happen.
These people aren’t the only ones that deserve credit though. The ones that are reading this deserve some as well. If you have ever made a post on the message board, responded to a tweet, shared a story or read one, or even just liked a Facebook post, gratitude should be given to you as well. We couldn’t do what we do if it wasn’t for support from all of you and we thank you for it. We do this for our love of the University of Alabama and its athletics and as long as you all keep responding, we will keep doing it. We have a big football season coming in just under 70 days so let’s do it up big. This team is special. Not because of how much work they put in or if they go undefeated and win the title. It’s because of that Crimson Tide uniform they wear. That’s what makes them special. Let’s bring it home this year. No matter what happens, The Tooth crew will be here to keep you updated as best we can. Thanks to all of you for the support!
