The Best Tweets From Alabama vs. West Virginia
By Chris Dodson
Another season of Alabama Football kicked off Saturday with the Crimson Tide taking on the West Virginia Mountaineers in Atlanta. The Tide struggled in a lot of areas, but never was too far away from West Virginia and came out with the 33-23 victory. As with many season openers, many experts and fans over-dramatize and over-critique the game.
As we do every week during the season, we pick out the best, the funniest and the most truthful tweets and lay them out for your pure entertainment.
The SEC Network debuted their first Saturday edition of SEC Nation live from Auburn and it was a great show overall (besides it being in Auburn). This segment was probably one of my personal favorites.
I was actually in Atlanta during the game and I can safely report that people from West Virginia are about as off and hillbilly as you could expect.
That picture is a pretty good summary of how fans felt about the defensive secondary. The Alabama cornerbacks probably recieved the worst grade of the entire team, as West Virginia quarterback Clint Tricket had a field day passing to whomever he wanted. But we have to give credit where credit is due.
Amari Cooperโs name echoed throughout the Georgia Dome multiple times, as he finished with 12 receptions for 130 of Alabamaโs 250 total passing yards. Special Teams probably improved the most over the offseason, as Adam Griffith got 4 for 4 in field goal attempts and had a 63 yard kickoff average. And โMurder Safetyโ Landon Collins finished with a team-high 11 tackles, including four on his own.
Derrick Henry and TJ Yeldon both were the stars of the offense, who both scored all three touchdowns for Alabama and ran for a combined 239 yards.
Say what you will about the quarterback situation at Alabama, but Sims shined well in his debut. He completed 73% of his passes and three of his attempts were dropped.
The defensive MVP? West Virginia dropped passes. If a few more passes were caught by WVU receivers when they were hit square in the chest, it could have been a different game.
Tweet of the Week
Priceless. This couple will be the talk of the season, most likely.
