1) Texas A&M Aggies

I had the Aggies ranked down to begin the season. The defense wasn’t supposed to be good and there was no Johnny Manziel.

Guess what? The defense is pretty good and enter Kenny Hill.

The Aggies opened the season by throttling South Carolina, passing at will. New quarterback Kenny Hill, getting his first start, putting up 511 yards on 44 completions from 66 attempts with three touchdowns. They also rushed for 169. On the receiving side of the ball, Malcome Kennedy led the way with 173 yards and the Aggies had five others with over 50 yards a piece.

There seems to be a problem in their secondary as the Aggies gave up 366 yards in the air and only 67 on the ground. That can be a bit misleading, since the Gamecocks were down early and had to try to get back in the game.

Not really much use in taking a deeper look at Lamar because, well, it’s Lamar. Sorry, Lamar fans. Texas A&M beat them 73-3, putting up over 600 yards of offense again while giving up 243 to the opponent.

All of these rankings boil down to one thing. The top teams all have things they need to work on, they have things they do pretty good, and there are things that they do really well.

Like I said earlier, be sure to drop your opinion in the comments section. Make your own ranking. I’d love to see those as well. Everyone more than likely has a different opinion and that is what makes the debates fun.

Since this is an Alabama site, there are things to be excited for this season. This is the time for improvement. I’m sure there are plays, schemes and different blitzes that we haven’t seen yet. Auburn, Texas A&M, and even LSU loom large this season. We get the first two at home and take on LSU in Baton Rouge. There’s still a while before we see those teams.

And I’m sure there is a lot of time to change this power ranking as the season goes on.
