Another week of college football is in the books, as the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 52-12. As Alabama prepares for conference play next weekend against the Florida Gators, the hot topics of the game included a debate that has been going on since the beginning of time, it seems: Who is the better quarterback between Blake Sims and Jake Coker?
I promise not to flood this post with everybody and their parent’s hot takes on the quarterback topic, as there were a bunch of really good tweets in the Twitterverse over the course of the game. As always, we lay them out for you right here for your entertainment:
CBS got into a weather delay with their coverage of the South Carolina-Georgia game, so instead of giving us all the Verne and Gary rain delay coverage we could ever want, they decided to air last year’s Iron Bowl coverage. I will spare all of you from the humanity-crushing multitudes of tweets I saw from people thinking Alabama was actually playing Auburn live.
Speaking of TV troubles, the NASCAR Nationwide race ran long, so Alabama didn’t come on ESPN2 until after kickoff. Many fans complained about the move, but ESPN was at the mercy of the wind, unfortunately.
Congrats to Amari Cooper. I feel like we’ll be saying that every week of the season. He finished the day with 8 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown. Remind me once again why he’s not contending for the Heisman right now?
That last tweet…really? Alabama fans can sit around and mope about it all they want, but in the end, it seems Sims has all but locked up the starting job at quarterback. Personally, I think Sims is the guy that needs to start. Coker is just not polished enough to lead the offense at this moment.
Nick Perry was ejected out of the game Saturday for an apparent targeting call. I’ll admit, I was one of the fans in the stands calling for the referee’s head, but after a closer look, seems like it was really the right call. Perry’s ejection means he will miss the first half against Florida, which spreads that position very thin.
And only allowed four field goals against Southern Miss. That’s a really amazing stat, considering how rough the defense has been through the first four weeks. Something to consider going into SEC play. And now a few miscellaneous tweets regarding the game:

Tweet of the Week
Speaking of which I had a dilemma this week: what if you get a Coke bottle with your name on it? Do you get another coke for yourself then another for whomever shows up on that bottle? Or do you you try to find someone with your name and give them one?
