3. The Dallas Cowboys

I’m not being a Tony Romo hater by any stretch of the imagination, but you have to be realistic when looking at Romo. Romo gets injured on a regular basis.
With the exception of 2012 Tony Romo has battled some kind of injury every single season going back to 2008. Romo has had injuries involving his ankle, thumb, hand, shoulder, and back. I’m not saying Tony Romo shouldn’t be the starter for the Dallas Cowboys, he should, but you have to have a backup plan.
Let’s take a look at the Dallas Cowboy’s backup plan:
300 year old Brandon Weeden. (He’s actually 31.)
Dustin Vaughan who threw for 10,525 yards while at West Texas A&M… but has never faced even a NFL or even Division I level defense outside of practice and preseason games.
Jameill Showers, a rookie out of Texas-El Paso who has also never seen a Division 1 defense.
Can you honestly tell me that Blake Sims couldn’t compete with that group of backup quarterbacks?
It goes beyond the QB position at Dallas though, as Dallas also has some running back problems. A lot of draft experts expected the Cowboys to take a running back in the draft, they did not. Was Dallas’ lack of running back drafting a sign that they were super happy with their backfield without DeMarco Murray? Probably not, it was probably a case of a guy they thought was worth the pick never came up.
Some folks say the addition of Darren McFadden solves the Dallas running back problem, I’m not sold on that. Given that Dallas is a much better situation that Oakland, I’m still not sold on McFadden still having the juice left to be the back the Cowboys need to replace Murray.
I’m not suggesting that Blake Sims could take the place of DeMarco Murray, I am suggesting that Blake Sims could shore up a running back core and give the Cowboys another option backing up Tony Romo.
