Alabama Football: Be a True Fan

I will be the first to admit going into the game last night I was a tad nervous, but I also never expected The Crimson Tide to come out on the wrong side of the game.

However, a lot of things happened. Are there areas Alabama Football needs to improve upon? Absolutely. Have we been spoiled during the Nick Saban era thus far? Absolutely.

As fans it is our time to step up. It is our time to support our team – win or lose. Why? Because Alabama Football is our team. Throughout the night, and at times I was one of them, I heard and read people bashing individual players and coaches. Do you truly believe those players wanted to let you down? Do you think they wanted to lose at home against a team who did the same thing last year? Do you think anyone affiliated with Alabama Football; coach, player or fan wanted what occurred last night? No.

What should we want?

Unity.

Yes, we lost last night, however, bashing players will not take this situation back. Bashing these hardworking young men will not make you feel better in the long run. So, while you are driving away from Tuscaloosa today remember you are not putting in the countless hours of physical or mental work these amazing young men have and will continue to do each week.

You are a fan. We are a fantastic base of fans and we need to continue to act like it. Have some respect for these young men who work hard every day of every week to impress you, their family, their coaches and the National Football League who is always looking at Alabama Football.

What do we, the fans, do now?

As hard as it may be, you need to accept the loss and look to the future. If I recall, we had a heartbreaking loss to the Ole Miss Rebels last year. Who made it to the College Football Playoffs? Alabama Football did. We did. Nick Saban is still a fantastic coach. Nick Saban has and will continue to surround himself with one of the best coaching staffs in the country. Nick Saban and that great coaching staff will continue to educate and coach the great young men they recruit.

Please remember Alabama Football plays in arguably the toughest conference in college football. Please remember our players age from 18-22. They are young people with a long life in front of them. Do not trash them. Do not trash the coaches. Do not trash the program. It only comes back on you. It is time for the Alabama Football fan base to unify and support. If you can’t do that then I suggest you jump off the bandwagon you hopped on in 2007. We don’t need you. We need the fans who were here before Nick Saban. We need the young fans who understand the hard work Alabama Football puts in everyday. This is college football folks. Stop trashing the players. Analyze the game all you want, but remember the people who are hurting the most are the ones who were on the field.

We are Alabama. We have been here before. Stay classy and supportive.
