Alabama vs. Tennessee is supposed to be a huge rivalry game… but the Volunteer’s haven’t gotten a win since 2006.

It’s been 8 years, 11 months, 29 days since the Vols beat Bama.  Or you could just say it’s been 3,286 days of Alabama victories over Tennessee.

If Tennessee’s last win over Alabama was a child, that child would be in the fourth grade this year… pretty soon that win is going to be going to middle school and having it’s first kiss.  Let’s enjoy this special time before it gets too old.

In order to really understand how long it has been since Tennessee managed to beat Alabama we thought we’d take a trip back to 2006 to see what the world was like in those simpler times.

Be sure to share these facts with your Tennessee friends, I bet they will love them!

TECH

The first thing you might notice in 2006 is that your cell phone is very different.  There were no iPhones or Androids in 2006.  The First iPhone didn’t debut until June 29, 2007.  So the last time Tennessee beat Alabama you weren’t clamoring for an iPhone 6 or 7, you didn’t even have an original iPhone yet.  The iPhone, a cultural phenomenon that is omnipresent in our lives, isn’t as old as Alabama’s streak on Tennessee.

So what phone did you have in 2006? Maybe you had the hottest selling phone of that year… The Motorola RAZR!

In 2006 NASA launched it’s New Horizon’s probe to explore the farthest reaches of our solar system.  This year that probe reached our beloved little dwarf planet Pluto.  WE FLEW A SPACESHIP TO PLUTO SINCE TENNESSEE LAST BEAT ALABAMA IN FOOTBALL.  Pluto is 2.66 billion miles from earth, that’s how far a win over Alabama must feel to Tennessee fans.

Windows Vista was released in 2006 to much fanfare… then it because the redheaded fail-child of the tech world, similar to what most of the SEC sees Tennessee as.

What about your tablet or iPad? Well those wouldn’t really exist until 2010.  You were still 4 long years from getting an iPad.  You could get an Amazon Kindle in 2007, so that was only a year away.   The last time Tennessee beat Alabama you thought the word “App” meant jalapeno poppers or a blooming onion.

In social media Facebook unveiled the Facebook newsfeed for the first time in 2006 and opened it’s closed network up to everyone.  So chances are that unless you were in college in the early 2000’s you joined Facebook around the time Tennessee last beat Alabama.

The most popular social media site in 2006? MySpace.  That’s right when Tennessee last beat Alabama Vols took to their MySpace pages to brag about it.

There are still so many crazy things that date how long ago it was that Tennessee last beat Alabama.
