This is the game that doesn’t need a build up or introduction for any Alabama or Auburn fan. This is the Iron Bowl. College football fans all across the state will be huddled around a television or at the game to find out the outcome. Non-football fans will more than likely be found in stores and out on the town because at 2:30, the only thing you will have to fight is possibly a lone tumbleweed as it passes you by.

The Crimson Tide has owned the Auburn Tigers in the recent past, winning five of the last seven. Three of those wins came in years when Alabama would go on to win the national championship. Going back to the 2009 season, the winner of the Iron Bowl has played for or won the BCS Title or made the College Football Playoffs. Alabama holds the edge in the overall series 43-35-1.

If the Tigers have success running the ball against the Crimson Tide, it will come as no easy task. Alabama is only allowing 77 yards per game which is good enough to rank second nationally and first in the conference. With the Tide getting to the quarterback and averaging almost four sacks a game and the defensive line batting down 11 passes (18 if you add the rush end figures in), nothing will really come easy against the Tide. If you do have some success at either one, chances for a turnover are pretty good for Alabama. Since gifting Ole Miss with five turnovers, Alabama is +8 in turnover margin. The Tigers offense will have to be nearly perfect for success, although the quick passes have affected the sacks in those games.

As far as the Tide offense, let’s just put Derrick Henry to work. Henry tops many Heisman voters list going into the last regular season game of the year. Henry has rushed for 1,526 yards and 21 touchdowns so far this season. What’s really impressive is that 69-percent of those yards come after first contact. Quarterback Jake Coker has settled down over the past few games and if he is the same Jake from those games, everything should work out in Tide fans’ favor. The wide receiving corp, filled with freshmen and veterans alike, can make the plays to back the Tigers’ defense up a bit to open running lanes for Tide running backs.
