Carson Tinker
Most of the time when an entire fan base knows the long snapper’s name, it means that something has gone horribly wrong in the kicking game. That’s not the case for Carson Tinker. After a tornado devastated parts of Tuscaloosa in April 2011, Carson Tinker’s story of strength in the face of great loss became a rallying point for a team and a city.
The house that Tinker was in when the tornado came through took a direct hit. He was thrown from the house and broke his wrist, while his girlfriend was thrown from the house and was killed.
He immediately started sharing his story and, as soon as he was able, started to serve his community as they helped to rebuild. He was a finalist for the 2011 Sportsman of the Year award and accepted the 2011 Disney Spirit Award on behalf of his team.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Carson Tinker as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft. Tinker has played four seasons for the Jaguars. He has played in every game each season, 64 NFL games.
In a program as storied as Alabama’s, it’s impossible to mention all of the greats.
I’m sure that we left some very deserving guys out. There were definitely positions that required a lot of deliberation. Some of our favorite players didn’t make the list, and I’m sure some of yours are missing too.
