SEC Football: Five Contenders For Off-Season Championship
By Chris Hale
The LSU Tigers
This team doesn’t think about any other team as much as Alabama. They feel if they can get by the Tide, they can cruise their way into the SEC Championship as well as the College Football Playoff.

There is just one problem: January 9, 2012. If that date doesn’t ring a bell, turn in your Alabama gear. That date was the Alabama vs LSU BCS Title game in New Orleans and when the Tide stole the Tigers’ soul. LSU has not won a game against Alabama since then.
Last season was the perfect storm. They had the Heisman trophy winning running back Leonard Fournette on their side and win against the Tide was set in stone. Wait a minute. Fournette didn’t win the Heisman. I’m 0-for-2 with these so far in this article. The Tiger running back did have a spectacular game against the Tide, putting up 31 yards of rushing with the longest being 18 yards.
Tiger fans had last season as being LSU’s first undefeated season in many years and had them winning the SEC’s first national title in the College Football Playoff. Man, that was all kinds of wrong.
This is the year for Tiger fans. They are already seeking out the articles that show them in a positive light and it’s just March. Can you imagine what it will be like in August? Fournette returns and the Tigers get to play the Crimson Tide in Bryant-Denny West Stadium in Baton Rouge.
This could be the reason the Tigers take home the off-season title as they begin to crow from the highest cypress stumps in the swamp that they are no longer “Next Year U” and they are winning it all this season.

They forgot one small detail, though. Coach Nick Saban is still the coach at Alabama and that is one man that makes Tiger fans cower in fear.
