17. Stop In For A Bite At City Café

Just across the Lurleen B. Wallace Bridge, in Historic Downtown Northport, sits arguably the best little restaurant around the campus of the University of Alabama.

City Café opened it’s doors in 1931 and has been serving “meat and three” in the same spot for 85 years.  The building that City Café resides in sits on a street that looks like it is straight out of a history book, with some of the buildings dating back to 1850.

City Café was listed as one of the “Top 100 Places to Eat In Alabama Before you Die” and is definitely a can’t miss place to grab a meal in Tuscaloosa.  There are quite a few “Meat and veggies” places in Tuscaloosa. However, none can even come close to the Home Cooked feel of City Café.  The daily home cooked Southern “feel good” food is what keeps customers coming in, but the dirt cheap prices for the great food is what brings in students from UA ($6.92 tax included).

The small friendly building only sits about 165 people, and if you arrive too close to noon, you will be waiting in a line backed out the door.  City Café opens at four AM and closes the doors at 3:30pm Monday through Friday.
