4. Have A YellowHammer at Gallettes

A staple not only in the Tuscaloosa bar scene but well known among Alabama fans who journey around “The Strip”, Gallettes is about three Amari Cooper screen passes away from Bryant Denny Stadium. There are TVs mounted in every corner, girls wearing jerseys so big you can’t even see their shorts, at least one guy yelling at a screen begging to run the ball, and of course a bar packed with Yellowhammers.

This cocktail may be the most famous in the SEC and certainly the most well-known in Tuscaloosa. A few other bars have tried to jump in on the successful cocktail market such as the Philibuster from Buffalo Phil’s (a favorite of mine) and the Sabanade over at Innisfree. However, nothing can really touch the tradition that is the Yellowhammer. Whether you’re getting gallons of it the morning for your tailgate or losing count of the rounds after a Tide victory, the drink goes down in Alabama lore included in both legendary victories and legendary stories that you hope to forget in the morning.

The cocktail itself is a nice batch of ingredients including various rums, vodka, orange juice, and pineapple juice. It’s best served with a side of an Alabama victory and maybe a water after a few rounds. Just make sure to keep the cup.
