Auburn: The Baby

Every family has to have a baby, and in SEC football, that position is rightly won by the Auburn Tigers. Whiney, demanding, and spoiled, Auburn football has proven to be able to get away with LITERALLY ANYTHING.  The Cam Newton situation was glossed over and everyone just threw up the shrug-guy emoji, acting like they had no idea what anyone was talking about – much like the youngest child in the family who can slip just about anything passed Mom and Dad.

Younger children tend to be spoiled and manipulative (don’t get mad, Barners – this is straight out of a psychology book) – and Auburn definitely fits that bill.

Children often try to recreate favorable conditions in which they grew up, and that’s exactly what Auburn has been trying to do for the past several years. Tommy Tuberville created the eye-rolling “Fear The Thumb” phrase after Auburn kicked Alabama’s ass in the Iron Bowl four years in a row, meaning that the fifth win would be counted on the thumb.

During that time period (2002 – 2007), Auburn actually needed a whole hand and two extra fingers to count their seven consecutive wins against Alabama. Since that time, Auburn has won 2 of the last 8 Iron Bowl matchups.

Like most younger siblings who will never let their older brothers and sisters forget even their slightest accomplishment, as the baby of SEC football, Auburn enjoys reminiscing about “those years they beat Alabama” and “those two times they won the National Championship.”
