The Future Of Alabama Sports

Someone who is quickly approaching placing their face on our Mount Rushmore is Tuscaloosa born boxer Deontay Wilder.  The current WBC Heavyweight Champ is now 37-0 with 36 knockouts and calling out the rest of the Heavyweight title holders around the world.  IF – and it’s a big IF – we get to see wilder fight Tyson Fury, he might go ahead and place his name in Alabama Athletic history.

Others are in the process of making a run for their place atop our sports mountain of fame. For example, former University of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, from Mobile, is currently playing in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Should we have included Charles Barkley? Legendary Coach Bobby Bowden?  Current University of Georgia head coach Kirby Smart?

With a mere four slots to fill, narrowing down the list to just four of the greatest athletes of all time born in the great state of Alabama  is a nearly impossible task. In fact, it might be necessary to have a different Alabama Mount Rushmore for every professional sport – football, baseball, basketball, soccer, NASCAR…the list goes on and on.
