Clemson Tigers (December 18, Birmingham):

Alabama beat Clemson by a single point last year, the fourth win in a five-game streak that also included victories over Wichita State and Notre Dame (both tournament teams). This victory (in Clemson) was one of the high points of the Alabama basketball season, showcasing the team’s ability and new direction under Avery Johnson.

This year, Alabama will play the Tigers in Birmingham, in the same venue where they played Oregon last year.

Clemson could easily be a very good team this year, and returning Senior Jaron Blossomgame will be the foundation for any success they have. While the Tigers ultimately missed the tournament last year, the returning, veteran presence of their leading scorer gives this team a high ceiling in a crowded ACC.

Although Alabama will be playing this game away from their home court, Birmingham’s Legacy Arena is still definitely friendly turf, and should provide something at least close to home-court advantage.

Alabama and Clemson finished with relatively similar records last season, and each team will be looking to build on previous success and experience. While this game could go ultimately either way, it should not be nearly as difficult as playing in Eugene or Austin.
