Don’t Fret the Slow Start

With Lane’s (probable) departure to Houston some Alabama fans will lose their favorite whipping boy – (in an irrationally shrill voice) – “Run the ball, Lane”.

For those folks, I assume the food must taste bad at their house.

A recipe is an action plan as much as a list of ingredients. Eggs must be cracked before being added and ingredients must be mixed prior to baking.

A good offensive scheme is an interwoven fabric not merely a menu of neat plays. When done right, such a scheme both helps and accentuates the talent on the field.

Do we really want another color by number system that depends primarily on physical superiority on every single play? If so, I imagine Dave Radar may be looking for work. Knock yourself out, just do it somewhere else.

Against the Gators the Tide staff followed a familiar pattern of testing and stretching the defense early while allowing Jalen (who is still a freshman), an opportunity to get into the flow of the game.

That may not always be glamorous, digging a foundation rarely is, but it’s necessary and important.

Situationally, yes, I love the power running game but you shouldn’t allow that to color your perspective on the larger whole. “Take what the defense gives” has been Saban’s calling card at Alabama for a decade. Trust in the Process padawan.
