Depth Watch

As referenced, the Tide secondary has toyed with its outer limits in terms of top flight depth. Eddie’s loss forced Tony Brown into a full time starter role and when Humphrey is unavailable the former walk on Levi Wallace is pressed into action. This has mostly been executed to a positive effect.

However, when Ronnie Harrison took a shot from friendly fire early in the contest, it begged the question as to how the Tide might replace his versatile contributions on the field. At some point the ability of the player are a challenge to replace and at some point the well does indeed run dry.

Fortunately Ronnie was able to return to action and appeared no worse for the wear, evening turning in a textbook Harrison play in correctly diagnosing an inside slant and tipping what would have been a sure touchdown.

Depth Watch Too

The loss of Sean Dion Hamilton on a non-contact play in the second quarter is a big loss for the Tide defense. Hamilton is underrated given the company he keeps but his contributions have been significant. I like what his replacement Rashaan Evans brings to the game but don’t think there won’t be an impact. Let’s just trust that the next couple weeks will allow the team and staff time to solve the case.
