Lane Kiffin’s purported late-night wanderings in Tuscaloosa earned him the name, Joey Freshwater. In Florida, nothing has changed but the name. Let’s check in on Joey Saltwater.

Lane Kiffin is not wasting any time becoming acclimated to the fine night life in Boca Raton, Florida. Just to refresh your memory, it’s barely been over a month since he left Alabama. He had a few questionable calls in the SEC Championship game. His game plan allowed Washington to hang around in the Peach Bowl for an uncomfortable amount of time. So, the axe fell.

At the time, we all joked that Kiffin was bolting for Boca because of its reputation for having a quality club scene. And, sure – there may have been a rumbling or two regarding the quality of the coeds on Florida Atlantic’s campus. But, that’s the dirty gross Internet claiming that – it’s certainly not me.

Still, all kidding aside, what was a realistic over/under for the timeline of Joey Saltwater’s emergence? I would’ve taken the over at a month and a half. I figured he’d at least wait until after the Spring game (wait – FAU does have a Spring game, right?). But, I suppose the grind that is recruiting wore him down to the point of needing this. He had to get out and have some fun.

According to Sporting News:

“The FAU coach was seen chatting with the locals at Club Boca near the Florida Atlantic campus — he also posed for several pictures.

Kiffin recently went through a divorce with his ex-wife, Layla, so there’s no harm in him enjoying the local watering holes.

Still, it’s slightly disconcerting to see a 41-year-old football coach chat up college-aged women in a club — especially considering they’re roughly the same age as the players he will be coaching in 2017.”

Now, isn’t that something?

We haven’t even reached the end of February and Joey Saltwater is out laying claim to Club Boca.

We make light of this, but first – there’s nothing wrong with talking to and taking photos with fans. Second, let’s not act like dating (that’s a nice word for this, folks) people half your age is unheard of in 2017. It’s Kiffin’s reputation that precedes him, and because of the ‘Joey Freshwater’ urban legend, these sorts of sightings are going to be scrutinized.

So, to summarize for those of you wishing to keep score:

Saltwater – 1
Boca – 0

The Kiffin Era is officially underway at Florida Atlantic. Now, the question is not whether Coach Saltwater can handle Boca or not. No, the question is whether or not Boca can handle Coach Saltwater.

I, for one, can’t wait to see how and where Kiffin pops up next.
