Alabama Football has had extraordinary Championship success with Game Manager Quarterbacks. Does the 2017 Crimson Tide just need a Game Manager?
Alabama Football and Game Management can describe many successful Alabama QBs. Just get the football in the hands of the Elite Talented Skill Players and don’t make mistakes. John Parker Wilson, Greg McElroy, A.J.McCarron were just a few of these Game Managers. All of them were effective, and two of them game-managed the Tide to championships.
There is no need for Game Manager QB’s at Alabama any longer. The Elite Athletic QB is now part of the Alabama roster.
Jalen Hurts was SEC Freshman of the Year and SEC Offensive Player of the Year. Most think he will be the starting QB in 2017 but it is not guaranteed. Two other elite Freshman QB’s Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones will go through Spring Training hoping they can do what Hurts did – start as a Freshman.
Both will get the reps to be prepared to play early in the 2017 Season. It will be difficult to redshirt any QB’s with only 3 Scholarship QB’s on the roster.
The QB position is not the only offensive position with elite athletes. Alabama Running Backs for 2017 will be as deep as any team in the Country.
Bo Scarborough, Damien Harris, Joshua Jacobs and B.J.Emmons all return with Scarborough being mentioned as a potential Heisman Candidate. Add to those four, two incoming freshmen Najee Harris and Brian Robinson.
Najee was the No.1 recruit in the Country according to many sources. He will play as a freshman, how much is yet to be known. Robinson was a 4 Star recruit & the No.1 running back in Alabama. Both enrolled early and will go through Spring Practice.
Alabama was tabbed as the “Best Offensive Line Class” of the 2017 Recruiting Class.
Alabama lost two excellent Lineman in Cam Robinson & Korren Kirven. Freshman All-American Jonah Williams returns as do Bradley Bozeman and Ross Pierschbacher.
There’s enough talent on the roster now to replace the two starters in Warmack, Brown, Lashley, Petitbon, Cotton, Owens, Womack, and, Casher. However, they may have trouble earning a starting spot. 4 Star JC Player Elliott Baker, 5 Star Alex Leatherwood, Alabama’s No.1 OT Recruit Kendall Randolph & Kentucky’s No.1 OT Recruit Jedrick Wills all are very highly regarded.
Even though Tight End O.J. Howard will be missed Green, Forristall, Hentges, and Smith all return. Kedrick James & Major Tennison will be true freshman fighting for playing time.
Calvin Ridley returns for his junior season and probably last season. Losing Ardarius Stewart early is a blow but Foster, Diggs, Sims, Faulkins and, Kief returning will lessen the loss.
Looming larger is what could be Bama’s best WR recruiting class ever. Bama signed 3 of the Top 10 Rated Receivers in the Country as well as the 13th! Devonta Smith is a 5 Star No.1 Ranked Receiver from Louisiana. Henry Ruggs is a 4 Star No.1 WR in Alabama. Four Star Jerry Juedy is Florida’s No.2 WR that some say could start as a freshman. Tyrell Shavers is a 4 Star 6′ 6″ 200 lb. WR that is a nightmare to cover. It’s certainly possible any of the four could earn early playing time.
There is elite talent at every offensive position in 2017. The potential is there to become Bama’s best offensive team ever.
So what is needed as the final piece in this offense?
An experienced OC that can get the Football in the hands of Skilled Athletes. With a team having this much elite talent, that’s no easy task.
Alabama just needs an Excellent Game Manager- but this time as an Offensive Coordinator!

That the new OC could come from the Super Bowl Champion Patriots wouldn’t be bad either!
