Evan Mathis redshirted the 2000 Alabama football season. Mathis became a starter in his redshirt freshman season and continued to start at either tackle or guard for the balance of his Crimson Tide career. He started 47 consecutive games for Alabama.

Mathis was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the 3rd round of the 2005 NFL draft.

Mathis has played 12 seasons in the NFL. At Carolina from 2005-2007, Mathis played in 25 games and started fifteen.

In 2008, Mathis moved to the Miami Dolphins, playing in seven games with no starts.

From 2008-2010 Mathis spent three seasons with the Bengals. He played in 26 games for the Bengals with six starts.

From 2011-2014, Mathis played four seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles. He played in 56 games for the Eagles and started all 56 games.

In 2015, Mathis moved to the Denver Broncos, playing in 16 games and starting twelve. Mathis earned a ring when the Broncos won Super Bowl 50.

In 2016, Mathis played in four games for the Arizona Cardinals, starting in all four. After an injury at Arizona in 2016, Mathis is expected to retire before the start of the 2017 season.
