Alabama Football Daily Insider: Spring Depth Chart
By Ronald Evans
Cornerbacks
The starting corners are a given: Anthony Averett and Minkah Fitzpatrick. Their backups are difficult to choose. Shyheim Carter and Levi Wallace are the logical choices given past playing time. But Trevon Diggs may earn one of the backup slots if he stays on defense.
Safety
The starters at safety will be Hootie Jones and Ronnie Harrison. The second unit safeties have many contenders. Deionte Thompson has the most experience. We think Diggs could become a factor here as well.
Star and Money
The fifth defensive back will be Tony Brown at the Star position. Money in the dime defense will likely be played by Ronnie Harrison. He is the most physical player in the secondary and has played the position. A fleet-footed linebacker could fill in as Money backup if Dylan Moses can learn the pass coverages well enough. Tony Brown is another option as well.
Punter
J.K. Scott of course.
Placekicker
We guess Joseph Bulovas will win the job, but if he exhibits any consistency problems, the kicker will be Andy Pappanastos.
Long Snapper
When a long snapper is given an Alabama football scholarship as a freshman, he will start – Thomas Fletcher.
Punt Return
Trevon Diggs or Xavien Marks.
Kick Return
We expect along with Diggs and Marks, one of the fast young running backs might fill this role. Chadarius Townsend will also be an option.
