Alabama Softball came back from their shutout loss on Friday to take the win 9-3 over Missouri in Columbia, MO. The game featured a much more explosive, multi-home run offense. The game also had an unfortunate injury to one of the Tide’s own players.

Alabama softball moved to 32-5 overall and 8-3 in the conference. Senior Sydney Littlejohn moved to 13-1 in her 2017 campaign with a complete-game win. Missouri’s Madi Norman was handed the loss, moving her to 7-7.

Alabama Softball showed off a high-powered offense, getting most of its runs off multiple home runs. It wouldn’t be all celebration for Alabama, however, as one of their own went down with a very nasty injury.

Home Runs, Home Runs Everywhere

If you missed Friday’s game, it was one of Alabama lowest games offensively this season. While the score deficit may have been small, it was the left-on-base number that hurt the Tide Friday night.

Things turned around quickly for Alabama on Saturday. The star of the show was junior Peyton Grantham. We’re going to let Alabama Softball’s twitter do the explaining for us.

Grantham’s home runs were a three-run monster in the top of the first, followed by a two-run homer in the top of the third. This isn’t Grantham’s first explosion this season. Her big bat has certainly been missed of late. Grantham’s three home runs in a single game ties the Alabama record with Marisa Runyon in 2015 and Jackie Traina in 2011.

Grantham wasn’t the only one to go yard. In the top of the seventh, Merris Schroder hit a two-run home run. It was Schroder’s first game coming off concussion protocol after hitting the wall during a practice.

Demi Turner Goes Down

In the bottom of the sixth, attempting to prevent a bases loaded situation, disaster struck for the Tide. Sydney Booker made a throw to first base and the ball hit junior Demi Turner squarely in the face. Turner went down in visible pain. Booker was visibly upset after the incident, but the team rallied together.

As reported by rollbamaroll.com here are details of how the injury occurred.

"“With one out in the sixth inning, with Tigers on first and second, the ball was grounded sharply just to the left of the second base bag. Shortstop Sydney Booker fielded the ball and as she wound up to throw out the runner at first, Turner stepped into the way and caught the full force of the throw to her face. She was on the ground for some time. SEC Network would not show a replay because of the nature of the injury, and when Turner finally was able to come to her feet with help she held a towel to her bloody face.”"

Turner eventually got up, with a towel all over her face and did not return. Fortunately for Alabama, a hospital was next door to Mizzou Stadium. We wish the best for Turner and lift our thoughts and prayers.

Alabama gets Missouri for the rubber match on Sunday at 12pm CT. The game will be on WatchESPN via SECN+.
