Alabama Golf: Women Win Big Tournament; Men Finish Second, One Shot Back Of Florida

It was a big weekend for the Alabama golf teams. The Women’s team won a tournament and the Men’s team was one stroke short of doing the same.

Alabama golf teams had a very big weekend. The Women won easily while the unranked men’s team lost to No. 6 nationally ranked Florida by a single stroke.

Alabama’s Women’s golf won the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament in Brown’s Summit, NC. The Tide women dominated the event, winning easily at 13 under par. The second place finisher was Georgia, 14 shots behind the Crimson Tide.

Kristen Gillman and Cheyenne Knight were outstanding in Sunday’s final round. Both Alabama golfers shot 66 on the Bryan Park Champions Course. Kristen Gillman was the individual tournament winner, finishing at 8 under for the 54-hole event. Lauren Stephenson tied for third, individually at 6 under.

Alabama Women’s Golf has won three tournaments this season and finished second twice, with previous wins at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and at the Mason Rudolph Championship.

Next up is the Liz Murphy Classic in Athens, GA, hosted by the University of Georgia. The 54-hole event begins on Friday, April 7. Prior to the Bryan Tournament, Alabama Women’s golf was ranked No. 3 in the nation.

On April 21, Alabama Women’s golf will begin its SEC Championship title defense at the Greystone Club in Birmingham. Other SEC Top 10 ranked Women’s teams are Florida at No. 5 and Georgia at No. 9. South Carolina, Arkansas and Texas A&M are also ranked inside the Top 25.

The Alabama Men’s team had its best performance of the season, beating the tournament host, No. 3 ranked Vanderbilt by three shots. Alabama’s team shot 11 under par on Sunday. Florida shot 13 under on Sunday to nip the Tide by a single shot.

In the individual scoring, Alabama’s redshirt freshman, Josh Sedeno finished No. 2 at nine under par and Davis Riley finished No. 9 at 6 under par. Florida’s Sam Horsfield was the individual winner at 11 under par.

Next up for the Tide Men is the Clemson Invitational beginning on April 7.
