The No. 11 Alabama Softball team fell short in a Pitcher’s Duel with the No. 8 LSU Tigers in Game 2 of the weekend series, 1-0.

Alabama Softball found itself in a tough contest with their rivals the LSU Tigers for the second game in a row. After defeating the No. 8 Tigers 3-0 on Friday, LSU was able to pull out a 1-0 victory Saturday night at Rhoads Stadium.

"LSU head coach Beth Torina knows how important a victory is in the SEC, especially against a team like Alabama, as she told lsusports.net , “At this point in the season it doesn’t matter how you get the win as long as you get it. It was a big win on the road against a tough opponent, so we’ll take this win any way we can get it.”"

Alabama Softball couldn’t have asked for a better environment for the game. The weather was perfect. The season record-setting 3,376 fans inside Rhoads Stadium were energized and the team was ready to go.

Senior pitcher Sydney Littlejohn (aka the Sharp Shooter) took the circle for Alabama Softball. The ace pitcher was amazing through the first four innings, giving up only two hits and keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard. LSU Pitcher Sydney Smith was just as impressive as Alabama bats were cold.

In the fifth, the Tigers scored a run with a RBI single to right field. The two-out RBI  was the only run of the game.

Earlier in the inning, Littlejohn lunged to field a ball that glanced off her glove. Had Littlejohn not reflexively stabbed at the ball, shortstop Sydney Booker could have easily fielded the ball for the third out. The bad luck for the Tide, good luck for the Tigers was the difference in the game.

Alabama Softball got runners into scoring position in the bottom of the inning. The Tide left them stranded after a pop-up in foul territory was caught for the final out of the inning.

Senior pitcher Sydney Littlejohn recorded only her second loss of the season (14-2) and struck out six batters for the night pushing her season total to 148 strikeouts.
