Alabama Gymnastics: Three All-Americans Lead Crimson Tide to NCAA Championships
Alabama Gymnastics continued the tradition of placing gymnasts on the All-American team as three members were selected for the second year in a row.
Alabama Gymnastics has a tradition of excellence. The Crimson Tide has won 6 National Championships and will be making their 35th Consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships, one shy of tying the collegiate record. Now Alabama will add three more All-American gymnasts to the long lineage of the NCAA’s best.
Senior Aja Sims, junior Nickie Guerrero and junior Kiana Winston (aka the Lethal weapon) were all named to the All-American Regular season team. All three gymnasts have an amazing history of winning while with Alabama Gymnastics.
"Alabama head coach Dana Duckworth told rolltide.com, “At Alabama, we want to develop gymnasts who enjoy great success both in the arena and in the classroom, but more than that, we focus on developing the whole person. That’s always been one of the cornerstones of this program and its success.”"
Junior Kiana Winston became one of three gymnasts in the entire country to win more than three All-American honors in one season. Kiana was awarded All-American awards in the All-Around Category and earned the honor on the Balance Beam as well as the Floor Exercise for the second year in a row. She also continues to be a role model for children and a pillar of the community.
Junior Nickie Guerrero has made the All-American Academic Honors for the last two years and now has earned the honor for the Balance Beam. Nickie has led the team not only on the balance beam but in the classroom and in the community this season.
Senior Aja Sims not only made the All-American team for the Floor Exercise but also was selected for the SEC Community Service team. Aja has committed herself to helping the community and the Alabama Gymnastics team by being the best in the arena as well as the public.
"Alabama head coach Dana Duckworth knows how special these young women are just as all of the gymnasts are but as she tells rolltide.com, “The people at The University of Alabama make everything unique and special. I love the fact that The University of Alabama is about tradition and culture. I tell people all the time that Tuscaloosa is the best-kept secret because we have it all here and everyone approaches things with a great deal of passion. It makes people’s experience very special.”"
