Alabama Football: Predicting A New Alabama NFL Draft Record
By Ronald Evans
Cam Robinson
Cam Robinson played three years for Alabama football and started at left tackle for all 44 Tide games in his career. Robinson was elected by his teammates as one of the permanent captains for the 2016 Alabama football team.
In 2016, Robinson was a unanimous All-American and also won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s best college interior lineman.
Many draft experts rate 2017 as a sub-par year for offensive lineman. Mike Mayock has Robinson rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the draft.
Despite Cam’s stature as a top collegiate lineman, some scouts are concerned he may struggle with edge rushers in the NFL. Robinson’s greatest advantages are his body size and type and his clear proficiency as a run blocker.
We believe an NFL team that features a more balanced and less pass-heavy offense will select Robinson in the first round.
Astute readers having labored through this post have no doubt sensed a “Houston we have a problem” potential – and we are not referring to the Texans.
Five Alabama football guys. All worthy of being NFL first round picks. We have identified 33 potential first round selections for five players. How can that be a problem? The Ravens, Bengals, Eagles and the Saints make up almost half of those 33 potential picks, 16 to be exact. In the first round, those four teams have five picks.
Will any Alabama football players drop because of this concentration of interest? Maybe – will they drop enough to slide to the second round – perhaps, but not likely.
As overexposed and under-IQ’ed television broadcasters used to say – only time will tell.
