Alabama Softball Splits Saturday Doubleheader Against Ole Miss
By Chris Dodson
Alabama Softball split a doubleheader against Ole Miss Saturday. The doubleheader decision was made due to anticipated severe weather on Sunday. Now, Alabama’s rubber match against Ole Miss is a must-win for many reasons.
In game one, Alabama softball won 2-0 over Ole Miss. Alexis Osorio got the win and moved 19-6. Sydney Littlejohn was in the circle when Alabama fell in game two, 2-1. Littlejohn’s record fell to 14-5 with the loss. The two games moved Alabama to 39-12 overall on the season and 11-8 in the SEC.
We’re just over one week away from the end of Alabama’s regular season the SEC Tournament is looming. Alabama finds themselves desperate to get the series win. The Tide cannot afford to fall in this series if they want prime position for the SEC Tournament.
Pushing For The Bye
Admittedly, the Alabama softball postseason outlook didn’t look very good a week ago. After falling to Tennessee and then to Washington in two straight weekends, things looked bleak. The month of April has been tough for the Crimson Tide. They haven’t scored more than 4 runs in a weekend series since April 1st against Missouri. Five of the games in April have been decided by one run. To put it simply, Alabama’s bats have gone from cold to absolute freezing.
As we approach postseason, any win is a good win. Alabama softball is currently sitting behind Auburn and Tennessee, who are tied for third in the conference standings. That’s important because it sets up a big series next weekend between Alabama and Auburn for the 4 seed in the SEC Tournament. The top four seeds get a
The top four seeds get a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament.
If Alabama goes deep run the SEC Tournament, the chances of hosting a regional definitely increase. It might take winning the SEC to secure home-field advantage throughout the NCAA postseason (that is, through the Super Regionals). Alabama’s path to the Women’s College World Series is looking more and more like a mountain now.
