Can Alabama basketball nail another top recruiting class in 2018? Let’s look at eight top prospects for Avery Johnson.

The Alabama basketball class of 2017 may prove to be the greatest signing class in Tide history. Every rating organization ranked Alabama basketball in the top ten in the nation. Rivals.com ranked the Alabama basketball class at No. 6 in the nation, behind only Kentucky in the SEC.

To put Alabama’s No. 6 ranking in perspective, basketball powerhouses, North Carolina and Villanova 2017 recruiting classes, were ranked No. 20 and No. 21. Florida was rated No. 32 and Arkansas was rated No. 33.

Can Avery Johnson achieve another Top Ten class in 2018? The early signing period for 2018 is November 8-15, 2017. Signing a couple of players early before the season begins offers an advantage.

It is hard to nail down the exact number of roster slots available in 2018. Armond Davis and Riley Norris will complete their eligibility in 2017. Collin Sexton and Braxton Key are probable NBA Draft early entries. Texas transfer, Tevin Mack is already enrolled at Alabama and will take one slot.

Avery will likely have two or three more slots available. Most Tide followers believe Avery will open up another scholarship through Avery Jr. if needed.

Much will change before November 8, but for now here are the top eight prospects:

  • Will Richardson – SG – 6-4, 170 – A Top 100 4-Star prospect, recruited by new Alabama assistant Yasir Rosemond. Richardson can be considered a combo guard, able to play the point in a style, not unlike Collin Sexton.
  • Javian Fleming – C – 6-9, 230 – A 4-Star prospect whose greatest talent is rebounding. Fleming will need time to develop more polished offensive skills.
  • Trey Jemison – PF – 6-8, 195 – A 4-Star prospect, widely considered the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama. A very skilled player who will need to add bulk. He is also being heavily recruited by Auburn and Vandy.
  • Khavon Moore – SF – 6-8, 187 – A 4-Star prospect ranked as high as No. 33 in the nation. Moore is the guy that can catapult Tide 2018 recruiting as Collin Sexton did in 2017. He can shoot, has good handles and rebound. Rosemond is using his Georgia connection to push hard for Moore. Many experts point to Kentucky as the leader for Moore.
  • T.J. Moss – SG – 6-3, 175 – A 4-Star, Top 100 player who can shoot well and a good enough ball handler to be a combo guard. Ole Miss is also recruiting Moss as a top priority.
  • D.J. Stewart – SF – 6-6, 190 – A 4-Star prospect from Mississippi. Stewart is reported to be very high on Alabama.
  • Robert Woodard – SF – 6-6, 220 – Woodard is an AAU teammate of Stewart. He is a 4-Star Top 50 player and Alabama has been recruiting him for a couple of years. He is not expected to sign in the early period. He is a priority recruit for Mississippi State.
  • Diante Wood – SG – 6-4, 175 – Wood is not well-known coming out of Anniston. He is a 3-Star but is an accomplished scorer. Alabama is in the mix, but Auburn probably leads currently. Antoine Pettway is his primary recruiter.
