Alabama Football: New 2018 QB prospect shoots up Tide’s big board
By Ronald Evans
There are new developments for Alabama football with 2018 and 2019 quarterback prospects. The Tide looks to flip Emory Jones.
Alabama football needs to sign a quarterback in the 2018 recruiting class. The Tide is chasing some big names including current Ohio State commit, Emory Jones.
Since our last quarterback recruit update, 5-Star Matt Corral is off the Alabama football big board. There are rumors the Tide pulled Corral’s offer. Whatever transpired, Georgia now leads for Corral.
The latest buzz is about Emory Jones.
Emory Jones is ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 2 dual threat quarterback in the nation. Jones committed to Ohio State almost a year ago and until recently that commitment was believed to be solid. Alabama football offered Jones in March and he visited Tuscaloosa a couple of weeks later.
Jones was back in Tuscaloosa this week for the Tide’s last camp of the summer. He made some effort to keep the visit quiet that was not successful. So far, no one is suggesting Jones is close to a flip from the Buckeyes but insiders believe the Tide has a chance.
Jones is from Franklin, GA and reportedly his mother wants him to stay closer to home than Columbus, OH. Alabama football will push hard to get Jones back for an official visit. Jones has 21 offers and the other 19 schools will also push hard given OSU may no longer be a lock. Auburn’s OC Chip Lindsey is also chasing Jones.
2018 Quarterback Prospects
Besides Jones, here are the other priority options for 2018.
- Tanner McKee – 4-Star – wide open but plans a two-year mission before college
- Justin Fields – 5-Star – Fields is the hottest QB prospect in the nation. Alabama is in the mix and Fields has spoken highly of Brian Daboll. FSU, PSU, Florida, Georgia and Auburn appear to lead for Fields.
- Jack Tuttle – 4-Star – Utah commit the Tide is working hard to flip.
- Gerry Bohanon – 3-Star – Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, Louisville, Ole Miss and Mississippi State are ahead of Alabama
2019 Quarterback Prospects
In terms of 2019 QB prospects, Taulia Tagovailoa remains a high priority for the Tide. Other names of interest are:
- Bo Nix – 4-Star Dual-threat
- Paul Tyson; 3-Star Pro-Style (Bear Bryant’s grandson)
- Jacob Conover – 3-Star Pro-Style
- Garrett Shrader; 3-Star Pro-Style
- Michael Johnson; 4-Star Dual-threat
Alabama football continues to chase the No. 1 ranked Pro-style QB in the nation, J.T. Daniels. Daniels is from California and west coast schools along with Michigan are his leaders.
