The last two seasons, Alabama football and SEC dominance has been so loudly challenged some confused souls claim a belief the SEC is no longer ‘The Best.’

Alabama football as a team and the SEC, as a conference, has for years resided upon a perch of dominance. Have we been haughty and arrogant in our position of superiority? Have we inflamed the disdain of everyone else in college football? Yes and Yes. On behalf of Alabama football and SEC fans, we make no apology.

A couple of pick plays at the goal line does not reorder reality. The SEC is still the best conference in football and Alabama football is the SEC’s best team. This century SEC football teams have won nine national championships.

How have the other conferences done? All the other Power Five conferences combined have won eight. Yes the ACC has three national championships this century including two out of the last four. That is a nice little record to brag, but not bray about. Leave the braying to Jim Harbaugh.

ACC coaches, player and fans, slow your roll. Win eight in a ten-year span and then you can talk about being the best conference in college football. Until then Dabo and Jimbo would do well to heed a lesson taught by Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant – after you put the ball in the end zone, act like you have been there before.

The PAC12, Big12 and B1G need to learn from the overblown estimations of the ACC. Your three conferences have won two national championships in 12 years. Do not be mislead by Dabo and Jimbo saying the SEC is no longer Numero Uno.

Nick said FSU built like a SEC team

A couple of months ago, Nick Saban paid Jimbo and FSU a compliment. Nick said FSU is built like a SEC team. The Orlando Sentinel wrote Jimbo “did not take the comment as disrespect.” Of course, he didn’t, but it is such ‘half-baked’ media nonsense that drives the misguided logic the ACC is the best conference in college football.

Jimbo did not take the bait. When asked if Nick’s comment offended him, his reply was,

"“So they’re built like an ACC team ― is that what y’all want me to say?”"

Good for Jimbo not being stupid. We wish we could say the same about Dabo.

First, let us say Dabo is a fine man and pretty darn good football coach. He’s a bit too ‘rah-rah’ for our taste but we confess a preference for ‘old school.’

Dabo said he would be pulling for FSU and against his alma mater on September 2. That is such bad form is so many ways. He could have said he has considerable respect for both programs and offended no one.

When he got out his ‘rah rah’ pompoms for FSU, he lessened himself and his program. By picking FSU he came across as needing more validation that his team is now fully a national power. Gravitas gained and gravitas lost in mere months and for no good reason.

This happens when people succumb to the foolishness the SEC is no longer college football’s best.

We contend the most important measurement of conference superiority should be national championships. Nonetheless, early in the 2017 season, the SEC can make a statement in 10 non-conference games. We cannot fault anyone for not rooting for Auburn or the Vols but otherwise, SEC, SEC, SEC!!!
