Alabama football conducted its eighth practice of fall camp Friday morning. Check out some new developments and what they mean for Saturday’s scrimmage.

Alabama football worked in shorts and shells Friday morning on the Thomas-Drew practice fields. Fall camp practice No. 8 was a tune-up for an important scrimmage Saturday afternoon.

Though unofficial, the fall camp schedule will likely only have two scrimmages. Each one will be very important in determining the two-deep for the FSU game.

Two new developments that may impact the scrimmage

As we have reported Vandarius Cowan and Jamey Mosley are not doing regular work in practice sessions. Mosley due to a concussion protocol and Cowan for a recurrence of an old back injury.

Additionally, Najee Harris is very limited in practice activity. Nick Saban did not discuss Najee in his media review after Thursday’s practice. We do not know if Najee will take part in the scrimmage.

Add freshman offensive lineman Kendall Randolph to the list of banged up players, not involved in Friday’s regular practice activity. Randolph is projected as the third-team left tackle and is likely destined for a redshirt season. He is reported to have been performing well during fall camp.

Where in the world is Minkah Fitzpatrick?

Based upon multiple reports, on Friday morning,  Minkah worked at safety, corner and the hybrid. LB/DB position, money. When Minakh is not playing safety, the battle for the other safety position appears to be between Hootie Jones and Deionte Thompson.

A big season ahead for Robert Foster?

During Thursday’s media session, Nick Saban spoke highly about Foster’s performance, compliments of rolltide.com.

"“I’ve liked his attitude. Robert is a fast guy who’s very explosive. I think there are certain things that he could do really well for us … Robert’s consistency in performance is going to be the key to the drill and that’s something he’s working hard on, we’re working hard on with him. He’s done a really good job so far.”"

Here is the video of Saban’s comments on Thursday.

Toward the end of the video, Nick speaks about the combination of football and a college education as a preparation for a successful life. He makes a compelling argument and leaves no doubt that his words are sincere.

Nick’s words will not get one percent of the media attention given to UCLA QB Josh Rosen’s statement that football and school are not compatible. And that is a shame.
