Wide Receiver Starters – Calvin Ridley, Robert Foster and Cam Sims

Calvin Ridley and Robert Foster will lead the receivers group. True freshman Jerry Jeudy was sensational in A-Day. He caught five passes, good for 134 yards. The media gave Jeudy game MVP Dixie Howell Award honors.

Jeudy’s A-Day performance elevated him to possible starter status. Senior Cam Sims appears to be holding off that challenge by Jeudy and will be the third starting wideout for the Tide.

Backup Wide Receivers – Jerry Jeudy, Devonta Smith and TBD

Perhaps even more surprising than Jeudy is the emergence of late enrollees, true freshmen, Henry Ruggs III and Devonta Smith. On a team blessed with extraordinary athletes, Ruggs’ athletic ability is exceptional. Other than needing a few more pounds, the same can be said about Smith.

Based upon the two fall scrimmages we expect Jeudy and Smith to see plenty of action. Henry Ruggs III will also be difficult to keep off the field.

Other players with a chance to break into a six-player wide receiver rotation are Xavian Marks, along with true freshman Tyrell Shavers and Chadarius Townsend. Redshirt junior Derek Kief has experience and is respected for his blocking ability.

Alabama football is loaded at wide receiver with many options if Brian Daboll decides to throw the ball around the yard in 2017.
