Thursday was the 19th practice session of the fall for Alabama football. The Tide began game preparation for Florida State with an outdoor session on the Thomas-Drew practice fields. The Alabama football team practiced in shells, meaning shoulder pads and helmets.
Alabama Crimson Tide Football
With the outset of FSU preparation, numerous Alabama football players were in scout-team jerseys to represent FSU players. Tide running backs Brian Robinson and Ronnie Clark wore No. 9, the same number as FSU back, Jacques Patrick. Vandarius Cowan also wore No. 9, the same number as FSU defensive end, Josh Sweat.
Ben Davis was a No. 99, the same number as FSU’s other defensive end, Brian Burns. Johnny Dwight was in No. 91, the same number as FSU super defensive tackle, Derrick Nnadi. Freshman Mikail Benton wore No. 6, the same as FSU inside linebacker, Matthew Thomas.
Other Practice Notes
- Josh Jacobs practiced but was still clearly limited from his hamstring problem.
- Freshman running back, Najee Harris also appeared to be limited.
- Outside linebacker Christian Miller appeared to be getting back to full speed during drills
- Matt Womack remained with the first group at right tackle.
Post Practice Comments by Nick Saban
- Speaking of the running backs, Saban came close to stating freshman Najee Harris would play again FSU. Saban mentioned no names but said one of the freshmen would likely play against the Noles. With Brian Robinson playing a scout team role on Thursday that one freshman must be Najee.
- Saban noted that first games usually come down to how many mistakes are made.
- Saban acknowledged two place-kickers might be used against FSU and that J K Scott might be the long-range kicker.
- Nick was very complimentary of the FSU style of play and the Noles head coach, Jimbo Fisher.
