Alabama Football: Official week one depth chart released
By Ronald Evans
Alabama football has a rep chart no more as Nick Saban released the first official depth chart of the 2017 season. Check out the two-deep here.
As always the first Alabama football depth chart of the season shows continued competition for multiple starting roles. In the past, multiple players would be listed with an ‘or’ separating them at a certain position. The latest Alabama football iteration uses a / mark rather than ‘or’ but it means the same.
On Monday’s released depth chart, there were 13 positions (including specialists) listed with a / mark in the first and second teams. A full breakdown is provided below. Let’s first review depth chart surprises.
Depth Chart Surprises
- Josh Frazier is competing with Raekwon Davis at first team defensive end and also at second team nose guard with Johnny Dwight.
- Isaiah Buggs is listed as second team defensive end behind Da’Shawn hand
- True freshmen Dylan Moses (Will linebacker) and Christopher Allen (Jack linebacker) are listed as competing at second team with Keith Holcombe and Jamey Mosley, respectively.
- Shyheim Carter is listed as second team cornerback behind Trevon Diggs and second team star behind Tony Brown.
- Brandon Kennedy is listed as second team center
- Deonte Brown is listed as third team right guard
- Irv Smith is listed as first team at TE-H back
- Placekicker and long snapper do not indicate starters at any of the three positions
- Of the roughly 59 players listed in the two-deep, 11 are freshmen, including five who were not early enrollees.
