Alabama opens the 2017 campaign ranked number one in both the Associated Press Preseason Poll and the Amway Coaches Poll. Florida State begins the new season as the number three team in both polls.

Series History
Alabama and Florida State will meet for the fifth time in the history of the two storied programs. The Crimson Tide holds a 2-1-1 advantage in the series, but the Seminoles were vicious in the last pairing, claiming a 21-14 victory on September 29, 2007, in Jacksonville, Florida. The series began on October 23, 1965, when UA earned a 21-0 victory in Tuscaloosa. The two teams then tied, 37-37, on September 23, 1967, in Birmingham to open the season, before meeting again on October 12, 1974, in Tuscaloosa, where the Tide would claim an 8-7 win at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Based on the preseason AP Poll, Florida State’s matchup with Alabama is the first to feature two top-three teams in a season opener. The game will be the fourth top-five season-opening matchup since 1986. Florida State is 9-1 against SEC opponents under head coach Jimbo Fisher. The Seminoles have won three of their last four matchups against ranked teams.
