Saturday’s contest between Fresno State and the Alabama Crimson Tide will be the first meeting between the two schools. This will be the third time the Bulldogs will have faced the No. 1-ranked team in the nation (USC, 2005; Oklahoma, 2003). Fresno State is 12-31 in games against Power 5 schools since 1998. Fresno State’s contest at Alabama this weekend will be the first of back-to-back games against teams that played in the College Football Playoff in 2016 – three other teams have
done this before, all Power 5 schools. Fresno State shut an opponent out for the first time since 2009 in its opener. Twenty-eight Bulldogs saw their first game action at Fresno State in week 1, while seven saw starts for the first time in their careers. Fresno State retired Derek Carr’s jersey last weekend during halftime of the season opener, making him the seventh in the 95-year history of the program to carry the honor.
