Other SEC teams and future Crimson Tide opponents

TCU  28 – Arkansas 7

This game was close for three-quarters before the Horn Frogs pulled away with two fourth quarter touchdowns. The Razorbacks did not help their cause by missing two field goals inside 25 yards.

Arkansas struggled in pass protection, allowing TCU to hold Austin Allen to 138 yards from only nine completions in 23 attempts.

LSU 45 – Chattanooga 10

The Bengal Tigers easily handled FCS opponent Chattanooga in Tiger Stadium. LSU QB, Danny Ettling had a good game throwing for 227 yards on just eight completions in his 14 attempts. LSU running back Darrius Guice gained 102 yards on only 15 carries.

Ole Miss 45- Tennessee Martin 23

The Rebel-Black Bears had some first half trouble stopping the FCS Skyhawks’ offense. Ut-Martin finished the game with 335 yards. It was not near enough as Ole Miss gained a total of 543 yards.

The Ole Miss offense is almost totally QB Shea Patterson. He threw for 489 yards and five touchdowns. A.J. Brown again led the Ole Miss receivers with eight catches for 156 yards.

Texas A&M 24 – Nicholls State 14

The Aggies won ugly – very ugly. Kevin Sumlin’s team had to score the final 10 points in the game to sneak by the FCS opponent. We have considerable doubt that Sumlin will remain the Aggie’s coach all season.

Tennessee 42 – Indiana State 7 and Vanderbilt 42 – Alabama A&M 0

The Vols and the Dores won easily against two inferior teams.

Mississippi State 57 – Louisiana Tech 21

Three things stand out about this game. First, Nick Fitzgerald is explosive. He passed for 124 yards and ran for 111 yards more. Second, Jeffery Simmons is a bad man and we are talking about his performance on the football field.  Simmons might be the most athletic defensive lineman in college football.

The third item of note is one bizarre play. Take a look.

Alabama football faces two more non-conference opponents in the regular season. Colorado State took down Abilene Christian 38-10. Mercer lost to Wofford 28-27.
