SEC Football: NCAA COI hearing and impending ‘Doom’ for Ole Miss
By Ronald Evans
Not just an escort problem
While he now fails to acknowledge it, SEC football, media star, Paul Finebaum long defended Freeze. That defense went away a few weeks ago. Finebaum now says, there was more to Freeze’s transgressions than escort issues.
"“I have my own theory on why he was fired … if you had the whole truth … I don’t think it’s as much to do with escort services as something else.”"
Finebaum has not disclosed what that something else might be. While Finebaum may not know more details, there is little doubt Ole Miss does. What Ole Miss knows, it cannot afford to say, so it must stick to this position,
This week in Kentucky, Ole Miss will throw everyone under the bus it can. Everyone but Hugh Freeze. Former Ole Miss staffer Barney Farrar has been portrayed by Ole Miss as going ‘rogue’ and violating NCAA rules without the knowledge of anyone else at the school. Current and former Ole Miss assistant coaches Chris Kiffin, Derrick Nix and Maurice Harris must also defend themselves to the NCAA.
Hugh Freeze will attempt to defend himself. Ole Miss has no choice but defend the former head coach as well, even if he now appears indefensible. Ole Miss AD, Ross Bjork must realize he too is vulnerable for steadfastly backing Hugh Freeze for so long.
Spin the Ole Miss argument with the greatest degree of sophistication, wordsmith it with the most clever obfuscation. The result will be the same, doom for the Rebels-Black Bears.
