Alabama football worked outside in full pads on the Thomas-Drew practice fields. Afterward, Nick Saban met with the media to discuss Colorado State.

Alabama football conducted its third Colorado State (CSU) practice on Wednesday afternoon. The Tide worked in full pads as is customary for midweek sessions.

Some of the injured players continued to show improvement. Rashaan Evans was in a black jersey but running on the sideline. Anfernee Jennings was back at practice in a black jersey. Neither player is expected to play against CSU.

Freshman linebacker Dylan Moses was not seen at practice for the third day this week. His status has not been updated since he was reported to have a minor injury after Fresno State.  Josh Jacobs worked with the other running backs during the media viewing period. His status against CSU is not known. Saban was asked about Jacobs during the media session. Nick’s response was both curt and somewhat vague.

Lester Cotton practiced at right guard along with others at the same position, including Matt Womack and Josh Casher. Saban’s Cotton update was the coaches “expect him to play in the game.”

Practice Notes

The right guard situation may be more unsettled than just Cotton getting ‘dinged up’ against Fresno. The various combinations in the first unit’s right side of Cotton, Womack, Casher, Wills and Scott Lashley indicate the coaches are searching for the best pair.

After three practices this week it appears the secondary rotation has changed for the nickel and dime formations. Hootie Jones looks to have settled in as a starting safety with both units. Minkah Fitzpatrick is now the nickel Star rather than Tony Brown. Brown is the dime Money starter. At least for another week, Levi Wallace has taken the lead at left cornerback.

Other Saban media comments

  • CSU will try to go fast with no huddle. If “fans get into the game it can be disruptive and help out” the Alabama football team.
  • Responding to a question, Nick said while there is no specific package for the freshmen wide receivers, they “are capable of playing and of doing a job.”
  • When asked about the planned QB rotation with Tua, Saban was clearly irritated. He said he did not know and if he did he would not tell anyone. After a mild rant, the media session concluded.

Thursday practice sessions are closed to the media. The next opportunity for new information from Saban will be the Hey Coach radio show on Thursday night.
