Alabama football defensive coordinator, Jeremy Pruitt could become a SEC football head coach. Tennessee and Ole Miss are possibilities.

Jeremy Pruitt currently serves as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the University of Alabama. Pruitt recently was a defensive assistant for the Crimson Tide from 2007-2012. His extraordinarily impressive resume could soon land him a SEC football head coaching job.

Pruitt has won a total of four national championships as a defensive coach. Three of which was won with the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the fourth with the Florida State Seminoles.

Nick Saban’s coaching tree has certainly become a popular picking spot for Power 5 programs. Talented coaches such as Jimbo Fisher (Florida State), Jim McElwain (Florida), Kirby Smart (Georgia), Will Muschamp (South Carolina), and Mark Dantonio (Michigan State) have all served as an assistant under Coach Saban at one point in time.

Jeremy Pruitt’s resume outshines them all. Not only is he a Nick Saban disciple, but a Jimbo Fisher and Mark Richt one as well.

The Crimson Tide’s defense continues to dominate, and the team is well on their way to another victorious season. This may be one of Nick Saban’s most impressive Alabama football teams, and Jeremy Pruitt should take that into consideration. Now is as good a time as any for Pruitt to exit the program.

There are two SEC schools that could make a run after Jeremy Pruitt.

Tennessee and Ole Miss.

Tennesse

Jeremy Pruitt is an Alabama native that has spent well over 18+ years in the state as a football coach and player, but surprisingly he does have ties to Tennessee. Pruitt lived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee for two years while he attended Middle Tennessee State University. He was a defensive back for the Blue Raiders.

The Vols have had a rough past 10 years. Philip Fulmer was fired in 2008 after going 5-7. Since then Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley, and Butch Jones have served as the head coach. Many Vol fans criticize the University of Tennessee’s Athletic Department for abusing their football program.

Tennessee recently hired a new Athletic Director and counselor. Vol fans are hopeful that the new personnel will put more effort into rebuilding their sports. Butch Jones has been the head coach of the Volunteers for five years. He is 0-4 against Alabama, 1-4 against Florida, and 2-3 against Georgia. He has yet to win the SEC East.

This past Saturday broke the straw on the camel’s back. Butch Jones and his Volunteers were delivered a 41-0 shutout by the Georgia Bulldogs.

Jeremy Pruitt has coached at Alabama, Florida State, and Georgia. He seems to be very willing to move around as long as it’s in the southern vicinity. He was born and raised in Rainsville, Alabama which is about two hours away from Knoxville.

Tennessee may be next to join the Nick Saban assistant fan club.

Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels are having a real rough time. The program’s savior, Hugh Freeze, was fired during the off-season due to multiple controversial phone calls involving a female escort service. Freeze was replaced with offensive coordinator and Mississippi native Matt Luke.

Ole Miss selected to use an interim for the 2017 season. So far that has been a bad idea. The Rebels allowed South Alabama and TN-Martin to score a total of 50 points on their defense. On top of that, Ole Miss lost to the Cal Bears 27-16 and the Alabama Crimson Tide 66-3.

Jeremy Pruitt’s name was definitely on Ole Miss’ list back in July, but is it still? The Rebels have a very historical football program, dating back to Archie Manning. Ole Miss seems like a great place to get a head coaching start.

The Rebels seem to always have an incredible offense, but it just lacks the coaching skills. Pruitt’s Saban-like protocol and substantial defense would help Ole Miss begin its rise to the top of the SEC.

Whether Jeremy Pruitt is singing Rocky Top or shouting Hotty Toddy, or some other catchy tradition, I guarantee you he will have success.

Just like every other Saban assistant, it’s time for Pruitt to begin his journey into college football stardom.
