Wednesday is a big day for Alabama football fans. Saban speaks with the media twice and the team wraps up full contact practices. Check out TAMU Wednesday.

Practice Notes

  • The team worked outside again, in full pads on a warm Tuscaloosa afternoon.
  • Brad Bozeman and Tony Brown, who had appeared to be recuperating from unannounced injuries, were back in the regular drill rotation.
  • Based upon the Da’Shawn Hand injury and this week’s workouts, look for Quinnen Williams to see more action against the Aggies.
  • The probable starter in Hand’s defensive slot is Raekwon Davis
  • Due to the Trevon Diggs injury, Nigel Knott has moved up to second-team left cornerback, backing up Levi Wallace.

SEC Teleconference

Following normal football pleasantries and avoiding bulletin board material, Nick Saban and Kevin Sumlin praised The Aggies and Alabama football.

  • Saban called TAMU “maybe the best team we have faced this year.”
  • Nick gave specific praise to Christian Kirk and Kellen Mond.
  • Speaking of Alabama football, Saban said the transition to Brian Daboll has gone “extremely well” and “I think we have the kind of balance we are looking for.” He also said the offensive line has “progressed nicely.”

Saban Post-Practice

  • Nick pointed out Alabama football missed a season-high 15 tackles against Ole Miss.
  • He said TAMU will bring pressure often, rushing five or six guys.
  • Speaking of playing so many freshmen, he said “if they are ready to play, we play them … I am happy with some of the progress …  they need to continue to improve.”

Saban seemed relaxed in the post-practice review. It is usually a good sign he thinks the team is prepared if he tells a joke on Wednesday. This week the joke was about him.

Nick said when he worked at his Dad’s gas station, a girlfriend broke up with him. Nick said he did not respond well and was rude to the customers. His Dad told him unless Nick wanted to turn one problem into a second and a third problem, he better straighten out. The second problem was Nick Sr. would fire Nick Jr. Then for getting fired the third problem would be Nick Sr. whipping Nick Jr’s ass.

It is no surprise Nick Saban expects much from others. He learned it from Nick Sr.

Saturday will be a very interesting game. It may be that TAMU is underrated. On Wednesday evening, the line sits at 26.5 points per SBRodds.com. The Aggies are No. 14 in the nation in rushing offense and QB Kellen Mond is rapidly maturing. The Aggies are also No. 15 in rushing defense. Can the Aggies give Alabama football a game?
