Alabama Football Recruiting: Update on top defensive prospects
By Ronald Evans
Defensive End
Alabama football has three defensive end verbal commits. 4-Star Stephon Wynn is like Isaiah Buggs in that he can play inside or outside. That option could mean the Tide only adds three more interior linemen. The other two 4-Star commits, Jordan Davis and Cameron Latu are ends or outside linebackers.
Top Names to Watch
- K. J. Henry – DE; 4-Star; No. 2 WDE and No. 16 Overall. Clemson and Georgia probably lead for Henry. Even if currently third in the mix, Alabama football has a good shot with maybe the Tide’s top recruiter, Tosh Lupoi leading the crimson chase for Henry. Virginia Tech is also a factor. Henry is expected to take an official visit to Tuscaloosa in November and announce his choice shortly before the early signing period.
- Eyabi Anoma – DE; 4-Star; No. 3 WDE and No. 57 Overall. Alabama football is believed to be in a strong position for Anoma. Eyabi has made two unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa and will return for an official at the LSU game. B1G Ten schools, Michigan Maryland and Penn State, along with Texas and Georgia are competing with the Tide.
Other Options
- Andres Fox – DE; 3-Star; No. 21 WDE and No. 359 Overall. Auburn and LSU are the main competition for Fox. Most insiders think the Tide is his leader. It is unlikely Alabama will accept a commitment from Fox unless the Tide misses on other players.
- Tyreke Smith – DE; 4-Star; No. 4 WDE and No. 63 Overall. Smith has 38 offers and no clear leader. The top teams are probably Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, Alabama and USC and maybe in that order.
5-Star, No. 1 WDE and No. 5 Overall, Micah Parsons is another possibility. There are unconfirmed rumors one or more schools are backing off Parsons due to off-field concerns.
